Pile on the miles

May was my highest mileage month so far.  I love that I keep track of my miles.  I started doing it last year when I first started running.  I can't believe that I have been a runner for not-quite-a-year, and I've already run in so many races.  When I stop to think about it, it's kinda crazy!  But I LOVE it!!

Because I also love statistics, here are some for you:
January: 62 miles run, 1 race (5K)
February: 85 miles run, 1 race (5K)
March: 101 miles run, 1 race (5mile)
April: 99 miles run, 2 races (6mile, 8K)
May: 106 miles run, 2 races (20K, half marathon)

This puts me well on my way to my 1000 mile goal for 2010.  June will be another high mileage month, as will every month leading up to September's marathon.  June will also see two more races.  The Bellin Run, which will be my very first 10K (!) and a small race in Auburndale to (hopefully) PR in a 5K.  But, I am most looking forward to Jaden's first race.  It will be my proudest blog post ever!

Tonight will bring an easy-ish 3-4 mile run.  My legs feel like they can handle a decent tempo run.  So, I"m just going to let them go and see what happens.  I was hoping to run outside, but it has been raining off and on with a chance for thunderstorms, so I will stick to the treadmill.

1000 miles

Did you know that I am on par to run more than 1000 miles this year?  I randomly decided to do the math.  In order to run 1000 miles in a year, I need to average 19.23 miles per week.  Definitely do-able, but there will be a few taper weeks built in leading up to some of my bigger races.
Averaging 19.23 miles per week for each of the first 21 weeks of the year (not quite through the 21st week) would put me at 403.85 miles for the year.  I'm currently at 427.2 miles for the year.  This is pretty cool!  I had no idea that I could even run 1000 miles in a year.
I need to give myself more credit!
I am strong!
I can do it!
I AM A RUNNER!!!

Goals and an adjustment

I seriously have the best chiropractor in the world.  I really wish she had a website so I could link it up.  I really feel that she has listened to me and considered all that my running does to my body.  After the training that I have put in lately, and the race last weekend, I was in desperate need of an adjustment.  And boy did she deliver.  I think I walked out of there two inches taller!

She spend some good time on my knees.  My right knee has been giving me some occasional problems and we also noticed that I only have blisters on my right foot.  Then I brought up that my right arch bothers me in the morning when I first get out of bed.  She said the two words that every runner dreads....plantar fasciitis.  Naturally, I freaked out.  She calmed me down (I told you she was amazing) and said that I should be able to treat this with stretching and that I shouldn't even worry about it.  Whew!

Back up to this morning.  I got in my 7 miles and felt really good about it.  Then I talked to my cousin about his new baby.  Welcome to the world Tyler Matthew!!  I can't wait to meet you.  Anyway, jason and I discussed my Crazy Legs race and my upcoming 20K this weekend.  We talked about goals that we each have....I want to run 33 races before my 33rd birthday.  He wants to do 20 half or full marathons before he turns 40.  I like his goal.  I might take it on as my own.  However, he has a considerable head start.  First, he has already done at least one half marathon.  And, he is two years younger than I am.  Maybe doing three halves and a full isn't such a bad idea this year.  We'll see.  I'm going to be looking for your help to decide what I should do on August 21st.  Expect a post about it soon.

What are your goals?  Long-term?  Short-term?

I remember when my goal was to run a 5K.  Now look where I am!
