I'm a vegetarian

I figured it was only a matter of time before I made this official.  For almost a year now I have gone without beef and any highly processed meats.  I've chosen vegetarian options when they are available.  I've experimented with all sorts of different protein options....tofu, seitan, tempeh, etc.  But, after watching the trailer for Earthlings, I just couldn't stay on the fence any longer.

It feels good to say that I am a vegetarian.  It is going to be an adjustment for those who know me.  I grew up eating meat and potatoes; a regular farm girl.  I've been reading a lot of blogs of vegetarians and I know that there are so many options available that have nothing to do with meat.  In fact, once I stopped eating beef, I realized that I didn't really desire to have any meat.  That made it very easy to give up.  I have a feeling the same thing will happen with other meats.

The biggest challenge will be for my husband.  He is really nervous about what this will mean for his meals.  I'm not going to force him to give up meat entirely.  That is his decision and it isn't one that I can make for him.  However, when I am making meals, they will be meat free.

As for me, I am thrilled that I will be able to eat healthy, tasty meals that won't cause me a crisis of conscious.

  1. Dude,

Welcome to my life. If Shaugn (Tim's brother) wants meat, he makes it (more often gets it as take out/prepared food) for himself. In 20 year I have never cooked a mammal or fowl, ever. I do eat and cook fish. Actually, I have never cooked meat (non-fish) in my entire life!!!!

Tim, you need to deal. If you REALLY need a steak/chicken, go out an buy yourself one and cook it for yourself!

    Good for you, Heather!

    xo, Heather

  2. Goodluck on your new food journey. I am excited to hear how it works for you and how you feel. I keep wondering if I should make the jump too. After the race this weekend (I am seriously attributing my tummy issues to the steak sandwich) I could feel a huge difference on my body.
